The company also made it known that it plan to leave phone production and hardware development to its partners, which will operate under the BlackBerry’s technology and brand license while it intend to focus all its resources on software
“We have decided to discontinue all the handset hardware development, only hardware, We believe that this is the best way to drive profitability in the device business,” BlackBerry chairman and CEO John Chen in a conference call with analysts
Critically looking at the company latest flagship device Dtek60 you will figure out the smartphone was purely an Alcatel Idol 4 smartphone running BlackBerry software, we might be seeing more of the company software on Alcatel devices from now since it has made it known officially.

According to the Company's chairman and CEO John Chen, he made it known that it has been developing its own smartphone, which it intend to complete transfer of all remaining hardware development by Feb. 28 2017 when the company’s financial year ends
He further stated that the company plans to outsourced its phone production to third party is in the best interest of the company, has it will reduce the company expenses by eliminating the need to carry out inventory, thereby reducing staff and equipment costs. in his words the plan is a long list of savings.

Interestingly, the company has sealed its very first major device software licensing agreement deal with an Indonesia telecom joint venture, according to the report, the BB Merah Putih joint venture will manufacture, distribute and promote BlackBerry-branded smartphones
